Hon. (Mrs.) Justina Edem interface with Biase Plantation Limited (Wilmer) seeks collaboration.

The Executive Chairman of Odukpani Local Government Council Hon. (Mrs.) Justina Edem met with management Staff representative of Biase Plantation Limited (Wilmer).

The Meeting which seeks to ensure a close collaboration with the company in areas of security, job placement, training, and other cooperate Social Responsibilities was attended by Village Heads of the host Communities, and representatives of the company.

The Chairman stated that she convened the meeting to intimate them on the need to fully cooperate with the host Communities in order not to short change them which may in turn breed restiveness as no business thrives in an insecure environment.

She advised them to obey the laws of the State and the rights of their host Communities citing that with the allocation of their land to them for the oil palm plantation, the people are desirous of development.

According to her, the people now have less arable farm land, less settlement expansion, loss of livelihood and possible relocation of farmlands.

She stressed the need for them to ensure that there is an employment creation, payment of annual royalties to host Communities, provision of basic infrastructure, scholarship for indigenes of host Communities, support to Schools, health centers, and security, conducive working environment for direct and indirect staff, regular interface between them and the Council and a synergy with their host Communities while stressing the need for them not to sponsor crisis or support a party in any traditional crisis.

She promised to effectively monitor the activities of the company in order to guide them against negating on their agreement with the Communities.

She seeks collaboration with the Company to enhance agricultural value chain within the Local Government Area which would in turn take many youths off the street.

She advised the community heads to carry their youths and all subjects along in all policies to avoid any confrontation from them and to always reach out to the Council on any issue beyond their powers.

The Cooperate Affairs manager Mr Esiet Antigha Essien thanked the Chairman for the wonderful interface. He gave a brief highlight of the company in Biase, Akamkpa, and recently Odukpani.

He stated that Biase Plantations Limited is a subsidiary of Wilmer who is into oil palm plantation and processing. The company according to him is an employer of labour directly and indirectly.

He promised to uphold all agreement entered into with the Communities while appreciating the Communities for giving them an enabling business environment to operate.

The CSR Manager Mr. Paul Odey expressed the company joy on the current security situation within the host Communities and commended the Chairman for giving priority to security.

The village Heads while speaking thanked the Chairman for her effort in restoration of Peace. According to them, they can now go about their businesses and their people are returning back home and driving from Okurikang-Okoyong to Esuk Atan Eki is now possible.

They thanked the Chairman for creating an interface between them and the company which according to him is highly commendable.
