Globacom Nigeria has launched fourth generation long term evolution (4G-LTE) in new Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Cross River State.
These include Odukpani, Akamkpa and Yala LGAs.
The service is currently the most advanced in the country and guarantees faster internet services while the world awaits wide deployment of the 5G services.
Calabar, the State capital as well as urban areas in Ikom and Ogoja LGAs were for long, the only areas with the service.
And, in a new informercial, the telco says Odukpani, which is close to Calabar: Akamkpa, with a huge population and land mass; Okuku, a large residential area in Yala LGA as well as Abakpa, a huge residential area in Ogoja LGA now have the service.
A quick check shows that the expansion happened in other States.
The expansion comes at a time when conversations about digital rights and access to the internet are becoming more topical.
Many rural and hard to reach areas in the State which hold nearly half of the State’s estimated four million population still have poor or zero internet penetration.
Some rights activists are also canvassing for 2G bandwidth to be issued free of charge.
