Ayade Receives UN Women Delegation to C’River, Expresses total commitment to Women Development

The Cross River State governor, Senator Prof. Ben Ayade on Wednesday, received a delegation of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) in Calabar.

The delegation which was led by the UN Women Country Representative to Nigeria and the ECOWAS, Ms. Beatrice Eyong stated that UN Women, an entity of the United Nations was on a working visit to the state in continuation of gender equality and the empowerment of women at all stratas.

Receiving the delegation at the conference room of the Governor’s Office in Calabar, Governor Ayade expressed optimism that the visit will enhance cooperation between the parties, pledging the state government’s resolve in providing an enabling environment with basic administrative amenities to enable the UN organ carryout sustainable partnership on gender equality and women development.

An excited Ayade admonished the team to spearhead development and mainstreaming for women, such as the training of female civil/public servants on leadership, basic empowerment interventions, including elementary safety mechanisms in partnership with the state government.

Briefing the state governor, the UN Women and ECOWAS Country Chief said the visit to the state is geared at enhancing partnership in the area of women career development, technical support and the conceptual design of training systems.

The UN Women delegation was taken around by the cordinating ministry in the state – the Ministry of International Development Cooperation led by the Commissioner, Dr Inyang Asibong.

Members of the visiting team include, UN Women Deputy Country Representative to Nigeria, Mr Lansana Wonneh and the UN Women Programme Specialist in Nigeria, Ms. Tosin Akibu.
